EMERSON’S BIRD DOG
Is it a bird? Is it a dog? Close, it’s The Verlaines’ ‘Bird Dog’, and it’s super, man. Released in 1987 by this New Zealand band, it is often considered to be their best, most introspective piece of work. Delicate pop with a classical modality, on ‘Bird Dog’ The Verlaines were a group ahead of their time. Sophisticated, literate and intense, ‘Bird Dog’ cements The Verlaine’s place in the modern musical landscape.
Emerson’s Bird Dog IPA is a tribute to this seminal album, and in fact John Collie’s painting which appeared on the Bird Dog album cover also features on Emerson’s label. Inspired by the sounds and passions of its namesake, this India Pale Ale features intense flavours which deliver a smooth tasting beer. Bird Dog is both a beer and an album that deserves to be put on high rotation.
